Customs Clearance – What You Need to Know

Most people believe that customs clearance is an aggravating and highly stressful experience, but it doesn’t need to be. By hiring a trusted carrier like Alliance we will educate you on the documentation needed, what is required of you for the crossing and all the details needed to make it as smooth as possible, Alliance prides themselves on staying up to date with all regulations enforced by the customs officers.  By working with your relocation specialist you can avoid common and basic mistakes that can account for delays or even seizure of contents.

Below is a list of items not to take to avoid problems at the time of clearance, do not take any of the following (and if you have any doubts, please contact your relocation specialist for clarification and or preparation of items)

  • Firearms
  • Alcohol
  • Narcotics
  • Agricultural products, including houseplants and seeds

In most cases and in most countries, your household goods and personal effects can often be entered duty-free. (Note: Some items may be subject to certain provisions.) Please remember that any duties or taxes levied against your shipment are in addition to our charges and Alliance has no control over the decision of additional fees placed by the Customs Officers. If that is the case, make sure you keep your original receipt, as some duties are refundable when you depart from the country.
